عراك الحصن ... قذارة صينية مستمرة حتى اليوم
 

في تقليد صيني قديم، يجتمع عدد من الأحصنة لتتبارز بشكل عنيف وسط عدد كبير من الجماهير المذهولة والخائفة.
وينظم هذا الحدث احتفالا بانتهاء حصاد الخريف وهو معروف جدا في الصين وفي أماكن أخرى في آسيا وعمره حوالي 500 سنة. وتجبر الأحصنة على المبارزة، وفي حال رفضت يستعمل المزارعون أساليب أخرى لدفعها إلى العراك... المبارزة تلاقي الشجب والاستنكار من قبل المنظمات المدافعة عن حقوق الحيوانات وتسعى جاهدة لتحريمها

وسبحان الله بين من يهتموا بالحيوان ومن هم أقل قدرا من الحيوان

After four elephants died between 2006 and 2009 at the Toronto Zoo, in May 2011, the zoo finally decided to end their elephant program, and send their three surviving African elephants elsewhere.
Then, in October 2011, Toronto City Council stepped in to help the elephants and voted 31 - 4 to retire Iringa, Thika and Toka to the beautiful PAWS Sanctuary in California, and I have personally offered to cover the $880,000 cost to fly them there. But since the vote, Toronto Zoo staff have been delaying the move and it seems they now want to bring it back to City Hall to get it reversed.
I've lost patience with the zoo's excuses and their efforts to delay a move they know needs to happen. I'm asking each of you to join me in supporting Zoocheck's petition demanding Toronto's City Councilors stick with their original decision to move the elephants to PAWS, and to set a deadline so there will be no more delays.
The delays are putting the elephants' welfare at risk, especially Iringa who suffers from a serious foot infection, the leading cause of death in captive elephants. I think we have to put the needs of Toronto's elephants as the highest priority, and the PAWS Sanctuary is recognized as one of the best elephant facilities in the world.
Several zoos including the San Francisco Zoo, Alaska Zoo and Milwaukee Zoo have moved their elephants to PAWS after public pressure and directives from their respective City Councils. If thousands of you sign Zoocheck's petition, you'll help make this happen in Toronto too.
