Arjuna and Angarparna

When they were in hiding, the Pandavas came to the river Ganga one night. A warrior came riding in his chariot and shouted, "I am Angarparna, a heavenly being. This part of the forest http://www.kidsgen.com/fables_and_fa...angarparna.jpgbelongs to me. You can't cross the river here." Arjuna said, "Sacred river Ganga is nobody's property." Angry Angarparna roared, "You have no idea how strong I am. "Now Arjuna was also angry, he said, "You have never fought with a true warrior. I challenge you to a fight. Hearing this Angaparna attacked Arjuna with his sword. Arjuna escaped his blow and threw at him the burning mashaal (torch) that he held. It landed on Angaparna chariot and fainted. When Angaparna came to his senses he begged for forgiveness. Forgiven by the Pandavas, he presented them with chakhushi, thedivine sight by which they could see anything at any place and at any time.

Angada Meets Ravana

As Rama's army crossed the bridge to Lanka, He made his last effort to prevent the war. He sent Angada as his messenger to Ravana to convey the message of friendship. Kindly return our http://www.kidsgen.com/fables_and_fa...ages/angad.jpgbeloved Sita and make peace with the noble Rama." The arrogant Ravana replied, "I will die before making peace with my enemy." Angada answered, "This was your last chance to save yourself, but you chose not to. Now, the mighty Rama will destroy you and your entire kingdom." Ravana seethed with anger as Angada spoke these words. He ordered the rakshasis quickly seized him and were about to drag him away, when Angada, with great force, jumped to the ceiling and escaped.

Abhimanyu

Abhimanyu was the son of Arjuna and Subhadra. He was very skilled at archery and was the pride of the Pandavas. Even as a lad, Abhimanyu was very brave and strong. Once, while Abhimanyu was in his mother's womb before he was born, he heard Arjuna telling Subhadra how to tackle warriors when they surround you in a chakravyuh or maze during a battle. http://www.kidsgen.com/fables_and_fa.../abhimanyu.jpgArjuna explained to Subhadra how to enter a chakravyuh, but he was called away before he could explain the way to get out of it.

Consequently, Abhimanyuwas born with the
knowledge of how to enter a chakravyuh, without knowing how to get out of it. when he grew up, he was married up Uttara, the daughter of king Virata.

King Virata was very happy to have won the war against Susharma and Duryodhana. He also came to know that for one year Arjuna had lived in palace as a servant where he taught music to his daughter, Uttara. He was overwhelmed with gratitude and said, "Brave Arjuna, please accept my daughter's hand in marriage." Arjuna replied, "I have been your daughter's teacher, I am like her father, I can't marry her. Instead of me marry her to my brave son, Abhimanyu." King Virata's joy had no bounds. Arjuna called for his son who was at that time in Dwarka. The wedding was celebrated with great splendour. Abhimanyu's mother, Subhadra; Abhimanyu's uncles, Krishna and Balarama; also graced the occasion.

How Sage Agastya was Born

Once Indra, the king of gods, asked Agni, the fire god, and Vayu, the wind god, to go and kill all the demons. Agni and Vayu were very powerful and killed most of the demons but the rest hid in the ocean. So they returned and told Indra that they could not kill the rest of the demons.
Indra was very angry. He ordered Agni and Vayu "Even if you have tohttp://www.kidsgen.com/fables_and_fa...es/agastya.jpg churn the ocean, you must get those demons out and kill them."
Agni and vayu said that they didn't want to churn the ocean as there were other creatures living in it and they would also have to suffer because of the demons.
Indra was not convinced and said, "The ocean has given shelter to the wicked and should suffer for that. But you two are trying to evade your duty by disobeying me. I curse you to be born as humans on earth." Thereafter, Agni was born as Sage Agastya while Vayu took birth as Sage Vashishtha.

How Kali was created

Kali is the fierce from Durga or Parvati .
While fighting the demons, Durga realised that she would have http://www.kidsgen.com/fables_and_fa...as_created.jpgto change herself into a violent and destructive force in order to kill the demons Chandra and Mundra. In a fit of rage, Durga poured out lightening from her third eye. From this stark light a dark female figure was formed, with blazing eyes and disheveled hair, her red tongue shining bright. She did not wear diamonds or gold, rather a garland of human skulls, and cobras as bracelets. Armed with a trident, a sword, and a human skull in three hands respectively, she gave her blessings with her fourth hand.
Once created, the blood thirsty goddess went on killing the demons. She killed Chandra and Mundra and earned the name of 'Chamundra'.
Then Shiva appeared and threw himself at her feet to stop the rampage. Seeing Shiva at her feet, she realised her mistake and stopped the slaughter.

How the Moon Lost Its Light

King Daksha Prajapati had twenty-seven daughters. All of them were married to Chandra, the moon god, on the condition that he would treat them equally. But he loved only one of his wives, Rohini, and shone the brightest on the night when he visited her. The other wives were sad and complained about this to their father, who cursed Chandra that he would stop shining.
All day Surya, the sun god, nourished Chandra produced divine drink some which nourished the gods lost their source of strength. They ran to Brahma for help. On Brahma's advice, Chandra chanted the 'Mrityunjaya' mantra ten crore times. This pleased Lord Shiva and he partially freed him from the curse. Since then Chandra shines only on certain nights.

Indra Grants Rama a Wish

During the terrible war between Rama and Ravana, Indra http://www.kidsgen.com/fables_and_fa...nts_wishes.jpg appeared before Rama and said the gods were happy with Rama and he would grant any wish that Rama wanted. Rama said he was unhappy to see the destruction brought on Sugreeva's army and added that he wanted all the monkeys to be brought back to life. He also begged for the place of their dwelling to be always filled with trees and fruits.
Indra agreed and sent his blessings on the battlefield where all the monkeys lay dead. One by one these monkeys regained their lives. The other monkeys were awestruck to see this miracle. Then Indra and the other gods asked Rama to return to Ayodhya and accept its kingship. So Rama, Laxmana, and Sita bid a tearful goodbye and left for Ayodhya.

Indrajit and Vibhisana

Ravana called his council of ministers to discuss how to fight with Rama. At the meeting, Vibhishana was also present. He warned http://www.kidsgen.com/fables_and_fa..._vibhisana.jpgRavana, "Brother, please give up your desire of marrying Sita. Rama is a mighty warrior. Your sinful actions will bring disaster."
Hearing Vibhisana speak this way, Indrajit replied, "You are a coward and a traitor. Instead of supporting us you're speaking on behalf of Rama."
Vibhisana tried to explain that a hasty decision could destroy everyone but voices of protest arose as he spoke. Everybody urged Ravana to fight the monkey brigade led by Rama.
Encouraged by his ministers, Ravana said to Vibhisana, "You have spoken in favour of my enemy. You are a shame to our race. Go away before I kill you."
