How to Reflect on Goals You Would Like to Accomplish
When thinking about goals you want to reach, also think of the actions you need to take for your goals to manifest. Getting started usually is the hardest step because people do not always know what to do, but this is one of the key things anyone must do when reflecting on goals. • 1 Focus on one goal at a time when you're thinking about all of your goals. If you have many goals, pick one to reflect on first. Thinking about one goal at a time allows you the clarity you need to achieve the goal.

    • 2 Develop a plan to reach your goal. All goals need some action behind them. Once you decide what you're trying to accomplish, think of what you need to do in order to see it happen and reach out to others who have expertise in the area in which you're interested.

    • 3 Decide on a time frame to reach your goal. After determining what you need to do, give yourself a deadline to reach your goal. Some goals are short term goals while others are long term goals and require more time to accomplish. Whether your time frame is months or years, a deadline requires you to make continuous progress toward reaching your goal. Also devote a certain amount of time each day toward your goal.

    • 4 Put it in writing. Whatever your goal is, put it in writing. Having something to look at keeps the goal fresh in your mind. Hang the goal in a place you will see it often. This gives you a visual reminder to help you execute the goal rather than just sit around thinking about the goal. Life Reboot suggests a method of writing an "x" on a calendar for each day you work toward your goal to create a visual chain.

    • 5 Repeat the process for each goal you have in mind.

Tips & Warnings

  • When reflecting on goals, always create a plan of action and give yourself a deadline to reach the goal. This keeps you moving along. Every goal has to have a plan of action.

  • Finding the right balance between challenge and ability is key to goal setting. goal image by Jose from Fotolia.com In order to successfully set goals you must be willing to abide by a few important rules. First, make sure that the goal you are setting is realistic and attainable. Making sure the goal you are setting is attainable, yet sufficiently challenging is perhaps the most important aspect of goal setting. It is also important for you to have a clearly defined end date for the completion of your goal. Finally, writing the goal down will help you to stay on track as you pace yourself through the various steps that are involved in meeting the goal.

Create Realistic Goals
  • Make sure goals are challenging yet realistic. A goal that is not realistic will not be attainable; conversely, a goal that is easily attained will not help you make meaningful milestones. One way to make sure a goal is realistic is by making sure you can define it clearly. As you set the goal describe the steps that are necessary to ensure its completion in specific detail, make a note of what you will consider a successful completion of the goal and set up a reasonable timeline to guide you along the way.

Set a Completion Date
  • Goals are ineffective without completion dates. A completion date allows you to put a limit on the time you can spend working towards a goal, a move that helps to increase the likelihood of your achieving success. It is important that the completion date you set is realistic and takes into consideration minor disturbances that could limit the amount of time you have to work towards the goal.

Write Goals Down
  • Another important rule for goal setting is that you write down the goal as well as the interim and final deadlines you have set for its completion. Having a visual reminder of the goal will help keep you motivated about the goal. It will also help you to quickly identify any missteps, obstacles or unplanned occurrences that you need to keep in mind on your way to accomplishing your goal.

How to Set Goals and Stay on Course
Goal setting is a skill that is useful throughout your life. Both short-term goals and long-term goals require you to evaluate what is important to you and what you would like to accomplish. Setting goals ensures that you have a specific plan toward your desired accomplishments over the course of your life. Setting smaller goals that ultimately lead to your lifetime goals is a key component in staying on course to accomplish your personal goals.
Difficulty:Moderately EasyInstructions
  1. Setting Goals
    • 1 Brainstorm what your possible goals will be. Write a list of the areas in your life where you would like to set goals. For example, some possible areas for goals are education or career advancement.

    • 2 Examine the areas of your life in which you would like to accomplish goals over a significant period of time. In this example list, let's say you'll plan to accomplish your long-term goals in 10 years.

    • 3 Determine your long-term goals. Narrow the list of goals you made during brainstorming and determine which goals are most significant to you. They will shape the outline of your short-term goals.

    • 4 Set short-term goals that will gradually lead to accomplishing your long-term goals. For example, if you plan to accomplish your long-term goals in 10 years, set your short-term goals along time frames that will lead to your long-term goal. The time frames to accomplish your goals in 10 years are a one-month plan, a six-month plan, a year plan, and a five year plan.

    • 5 Create daily to-do lists that have gradual steps toward your long-term goals. Review all of your goals to be sure that they match with your desired lifestyle.

    Stay On Course
    • 1 Update your daily to-do lists regularly.

    • 2 Complete your goals every day. Ensure that they are steps to accomplishing your short-term, and thus, long-term goals.

    • 3 Review your long-term goals periodically.

    • 4 Modify your long-term goals as you achieve your short-term goals.
